My name is Tobias Gårdhus, and I am a sociologist specialized in digital methods and computational sociology.
I'm passionate about developing software for social sciences and applying it for meaningful research.
When I'm not spending time in the ivory tower I like to spend my time:
As a student of sociology, I have been presented with
a wide variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives.
From a theoretical perspective this includes sociological theories
of culture, the (Danish) welfare state, class, gender, critical theory and the perception
and ethics of Nature. My bachelor thesis and most of masters has focused
around political sociology in one way or another.
The methodological pallette covers both qualitative, quantitative and digital methods.
While I really enjoy and value qualitative methods (and sociological theory), I have spent the
majority of my elective courses which fall under the umbrella of Computational Social Science.
Since 2019 I have been employed at and associated with the Copenhagen Center for Social Data Science
(SODAS).
My studies & research activities revolve around political communication and public attention. I do
this by gathering and analyzing data from digital sources such as Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia,
news papers and public institutions.
During the first year of covid I while working full time on the DISTRACT project managing
and providing content for an intermittent research
website.
Currently, my research endeavours revolve around political communication and public attention.
